ASU's Polytechnic campus Fire Service Programs are designed to provide
for its customers' needs in several important ways. First, it is committed
to provide the highest quality education and learning experience possible,
through effective curriculum design and course preparation. Second, it is recognized
that students and program participants want flexibility, convenience, and choice
in the delivery systems used to deliver its programs. Therefore, the ASU's
Polytechnic campus Fire Service Programs delivery system provides two program
formats. One format combines traditional face-to-face classroom experience
with ASU’s capacity
to deliver courses and programs online; these courses are called hybrid courses.
The second format used to deliver the BAS Degree in Fire Service Management
and the Fire Service Management Certificate is a fully online format, accessible
from any Internet connection in the world.

The length of the semester for all fire courses is 12 weeks in lieu of the traditional university 16-week semester. Each face-to-face class meets for
three hours and 30 minutes, which provides for the same number of clock hours provided by the traditional 16-week semester.
-
A trimester system approach has been established by including the
spring, summer, and fall semesters into the curriculum planning cycle.
This system provides a 12-week spring semester, an 8-week summer
semester and a 12-week fall semester. This scheduling format provides
for a 7-week break after the spring semester, which begins at the
normal ASU spring semester start date. The 8-week summer semester
begins about the first in June ending about the end of July. After about a
3-week break the 12-week fall semester begins at the same time as the regular
ASU fall semester, ending about the first week in November. Then after a 9-week
break over the holiday season the cycle repeats itself.
-
Courses from other institutions may be transferred into the BAS Degree. The
specific requirements are listed on the Web pages for each of the programs.
It is recognized that many fire service students have taken courses at other
universities and at the National Fire Academy. Some of these courses may apply
towards the degree at ASU's Polytechnic campus.
-
Typically, the fire courses are either offered as hybrid or fully online,
however all of the non fire courses required for the BAS FSM degree are offered
online
